Graduate Fellowships

The Higher Education Administration Master's Program at UMass Lowell is an exciting way for students to prepare for a professional career in higher education. The Office of Residence Life offers several Graduate Fellow opportunities that provide practical application of knowledge and topics discussed in the classroom. Availability of positions depends on the year, and applications can be found on the Student Affairs Graduate Fellowships website.

Assistant Area Coordinator (AAC)

The Assistant Area Coordinator helps supervise and oversee an assigned residential area. This includes assisting the full-time Area Coordinator in the administration of occupancy management processes, staff supervision, crisis intervention and student conduct. The Assistant Area Coordinator will also have the opportunity to serve on a departmental committee and participate in Residence Life's on-call duty rotation.

Housing Coordinator (HC)

The Housing Coordinator assists the Assistant Directors and Senior Associate Director of Housing in department-wide occupancy management processes, including room assignment, room changes, roommate matching, and housing cancellations. The Housing Coordinator assists students in navigating all on campus housing processes, and assists students in resolving any issues or concerns. The Housing Coordinator represents the Office of Residence Life at University events, including Open House and Accepted Student Days. The Housing Coordinator will also assist in the design and implementation of marketing strategies for Residence Life. The Housing Coordinator will also have the opportunity to serve on a departmental committee.

Graduate Resident Educator (GRE)

The Graduate Resident Educator assists in the training and supervision of student residence life staff in the development of residential curriculum programming, student support, and first year experience initiatives. The Graduate Resident Educator provides outreach, support, and intervention to students that need assistance in being academically successful, and partners with academic resources on campus to support student retention initiatives. The Graduate Resident Educator will have the opportunity to serve on a departmental committee and will participate in Residence Life's on-call duty rotation.

Graduate Fellow Compensation

  • $15,000 stipend for a 12 month contract
  • Single room in on campus apartment (shared with one other graduate fellow)
  • Silver or Gold Meal Plan during academic semesters
  • Monthly professional development opportunities on campus

Applying for a Graduate Fellowship

You can access additional information along with the graduate fellow application year round but the priority consideration deadline is February 15!

Qualifications for a Graduate Fellowship Include:

  • Previous experience as a student leader or student staff member
  • Acceptance into a graduate program at UMass Lowell
    Priority consideration is given to students in the Master's of Education: Higher Education Administration Program
  • Bachelor's Degree
