Faculty Advocates (FAs) serve as crucial supporters for first-generation college students in their department and/or college. FAs create the core of each student's experience in RHSA during their first year, in tandem with the RHSA Peer & Team Leaders (who first-year students also meet with throughout the year). Faculty Advocates teach the RHSA "Pods" which are designed to:
  • Invite students into the culture, opportunities, experiences and understanding of the unwritten rules and ways of navigating life in their specific department and college.
  • Provide academic enrichment experiences related to students' majors and other areas of interest.
  • Help students build mentoring relationships and networks of support, including their connections with their peers in their Pod.
  • Offer academic success strategies specific to students' majors.
  • Connect students to resources and programs at the university.
  • Increase student resilience and agency.
