An audition is required for all majors in the Music Department, including Sound Recording Technology. Please visit our How to Apply webpage for details. UMass Lowell's Sound Recording Technology (SRT) program has been training successful audio professionals for over thirty years.

You will take at least nine courses in the art and technology of recording. The program also includes traditional studies in music as well as courses in physics, electrical engineering, computer science, and advanced mathematics.

Sound recording technology is one of UMass Lowell's signature programs and one of the few programs of its kind in the United States. Through your coursework, you will gain the practical and theoretical background needed for success in the industry.

  • 1,200-seat concert hall
  • 225-seat recital hall
  • 30 rehearsal suites
  • 6 sound recording technology studios (including world-class tracking and mixing spaces)
  • Music technology laboratory (containing state-of-the-art Apple workstations with MIDI keyboards)
