The following is a list of scholarships available to undergraduate students who are transferring to UMass Lowell with at least 12 credits from their most recent institution. Transfer scholarships are only available to students who do not have a prior bachelor's degree.

Merit Scholarships

UMass Lowell Transfer Scholarship UML-transfer

We are proud to award the UMass Lowell Transfer Scholarships, our in-state scholarship, to a select number of our most academically-qualified admitted transfer students from within the state of Massachusetts.

Award: $3,000

  • In-state residency required
  • Application not required, recipients chosen based on academic strength of applicant pool and fund availability at the time of admission
  • Award amount prorated for part-time students
  • Renewal criteria: 3.000 GPA; maximum eight semesters

Out-of-State and International Scholarships outofstate

UMass Lowell offers a variety of scholarships to our full-time, out-of-state and international transfer applicants of exceptional merit.

  • Award: Scholarship amounts range from $10,000 to $20,000
  • The type and amounts of the award depend on a comprehensive evaluation of each year's applicant pool.
  • Renewal criteria: Cumulative GPA of at least 3.000 full-time status; maximum of eight consecutive semesters

New England Regional Scholarships new-prox

In addition to the tuition discount program, UMass Lowell offers a variety of scholarships to our full-time, first-time, New England Regional and Southern New Hampshire proximity eligible applicants of exceptional merit.

  • Award: Scholarship amounts range from $5,000 to $12,500
  • The type and amounts of the award depend on a comprehensive evaluation of each year's applicant pool
  • Application not required, recipients chosen based on academic strength of applicant pool and fund availability at the time of admission
  • Renewal criteria: Cumulative GPA of at least 3.000, full-time status; maximum of eight consecutive semesters

Mid-Atlantic Regional Awards mid-atlantic-regional-award

UMass Lowell offers a scholarship to our transfer students from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

  • Awards: Annual awards ranging from $6000 to $20,400.
  • Renewal requirements: Cumulative GPA of at least 3.000, full-time status, maximum of eight consecutive semesters.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Scholarship ptk

This scholarship is available to a limited number of full-time transfer students who are active members in PTK.

Award: $1,000

  • In-state, out-of-state, and New England Regional Residency
  • Minimum GPA of 3.500
  • Associates Degree completed
  • PTK Membership (as shown on the official transcript)
  • Application not required, recipients chosen based on fund availability at the time of admission
  • Renewal criteria: 3.000 GPA; full time status; maximum 4 semesters

Massachusetts Transfer Tuition Credit Program MAPP

UMass Lowell proudly offers Mass. community college students who have earned an associate’s degree in an approved program with a 3.000 or better GPA an in-state tuition credit when they transfer to UMass Lowell.

Award: A portion of in-state day school tuition, currently equivalent to $1,454 for full-time students/pro-rated for part-time students.

  • In-state, Out-of-state, International, or New England Regional residencies
  • Associates degree with a minimum transfer GPA of 3.000 from a Massachusetts community college
  • MassTransfer eligible major
  • Enroll at UMass Lowell within one calendar year of graduating from a Massachusetts community college and have not matriculated into another four year college since completing an associates degree
  • Does not cover GPS online or continuing education courses
  • Renewal criteria: 3.000 GPA; maximum four semesters

Please Note: The scholarships listed on this page are not available to students enrolled in The Division of Graduate, Online & Professional Studies (GPS) and do not apply to GPS courses. In addition, students who have already received a bachelor's degree are not eligible. UMass Lowell scholarship programs are subject to change from year to year depending on funding levels, quality of applicant pool and University priorities.
