Welcome back!

Students must go through the room selection process every year to remain on campus, which usually occurs in April, after students have completed their housing contract and deposit on time by the end of March. Please look to further information once the process nears.

Staying on Campus in 3 Easy Steps!

Step 1: Complete the housing contract on the Online Housing Portal along with preferences.

Step 2: The online housing contract is accompanied by a payment screen for a $200 deposit. Deposits can be paid by credit/debit card (with a credit card logo). Visa, Master Card and Discover are the accepted forms of credit card. The $200 deposit is non-refundable for those who will remain UMass Lowell students. If you are transferring or withdrawing from the University the deposit will be refunded to you with 2-4 weeks of your cancellation or applied to an outstanding balance.

Step 3: You will be assigned a lottery time slot the first week in April. You can use this lottery number for the process of your choice below:

  • Go through General Room Selection and Living Learning Community Selection.
  • Pull-in Roommate(s) into the room selected during general room selection and Living Learning Community selection. Please note that if you are going through the Living Learning Community selection process the roommates you are pulling in MUST also be accepted into the same community.

You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view any pdf files. It can be download for free from the Adobe website.

Contract Deadline

All current residents and commuters needed to return their contract and deposit on or before March 31, 2017.

Those who complete their contractual obligations after this deadline will go onto our Wait-list. Students on the wait-list will then be assigned based on availability, if any.

Lottery Time Slot

Every returning resident and commuter that applies for housing on or before the deadline is assigned a Lottery Time Slot. This lottery time slot will be used to determine what time the student can log in and pick a room during the Living Learning Community selection process and General room selection process. Lottery time slots are randomly assigned by class year in the following order:

  • Seniors/Graduate Students
  • Juniors
  • Sophomores
  • Freshmen

The Lottery Schedule will be posted in the near future.

What do you want to do?

Retain my room:

Students in select areas may be eligible to retain their current space for the following academic year. Students will be notified of eligibility prior to retention days. In order to retain your room you should log onto the Online Housing Portal, return to the application and select "retain room".

Pull-in a roommate:

Be sure to retain your room first and request and confirm roommates on the housing portal. To request a roommate students should obtain their desire roommates web screen name (student email address minus @student.uml.edu). All requests must be mutually confirmed prior to any attempt to pull-in to a room or suite. Students should pull-in roommates by logging into the Online Housing Portal and selecting the portion of the application called "Roommate Assign".

General Room Selection

You will be given a time slot that will dictate the earliest possible time when you can log in to assign yourself into available open spaces. At this time you may also pull in roommates that have been requested and confirmed. The person with lowest possible time slot should act as a the group representative.
