The Department of World Languages and Cultures offers a Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages (BA). There are four different options for this Major:

  1. Spanish
  2. French
  3. French / Spanish
  4. Italian / Spanish

Our curriculum specifically focuses on the relations, interactions and influences of the arts and humanities on one another, both in the context of a single linguistic or cultural community and in our multilingual and multicultural global world.

Paris 2016

In the summer of 2016 UMass Lowell students and faculty travel to Paris and other destinations in France for a unique opportunity to study the art and culture and cinema of France while interacting with authentic artifacts and monuments and examining these in situ and in real time.

Spain 2015

In the summer of 2015, UMass Lowell students and faculty traveled to Cadiz, Spain for intensive Spanish Language and Culture immersion. Residing in the most ancient city still standing in western Europe, they lived with a local families (homestay), attended class, and took advantage of the University of Cádiz resources to increase their language skills substantially.

In the summer of 2015, UMass Lowell students and faculty travelled to Phnom Penh to study the role of Cambodian youth in the future of Cambodia (Over 65% of Cambodia’s population is under 30 years-old).
