The Department of World Languages and Cultures puts The World in Your Hands.

The Department of World Languages and Cultures in the College of Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Lowell offers a B.A. in World Languages and Cultures as well as several minors related to the study of various languages and/or their unique culture.

Our curriculum specifically focuses on the relations, interactions and influences of the arts and humanities on one another, both in the context of a single linguistic or cultural community and in our multilingual and multicultural global world. With this goal in mind, the department of World Languages and Cultures strongly encourages students to Study Abroad for a year, a semester, a summer or a winter session, or to complete an internship abroad, as UMass Lowell established over 100 partnerships with institutions across the globe.

Multilingualism is increasingly critical and desirable for careers in business, industry, commerce, civil service, law, library science, media, science, economics, education, health and social sciences, to name a few. In order to achieve proficiency, we strongly encourage our students to consider studying abroad to help them become global citizens.
