J-1 Scholars (Research Scholars, Professors, Short-Term Scholars) and Student Interns may be permitted to take occasional part time and non-degree classes as an incidental or secondary activity, if approved by the host faculty and the ISSO. J-1 Exchange Visitors cannot be degree-seeking students and research scholars/professors at the same time. The following guidelines will apply:
- The J-1 Scholar must fulfill all the requirements of their J-1 category
- The J-1 Scholar must maintain valid status
- The program objectives listed on their DS-2019 must be kept and pursued
- Enrollment in any class must be a secondary or observational activity, if approved
