Who Is My Loan Servicer?
The process for finding your loan servicer will be different depending on whether you have federal or private student loans. If you have both, you will need to take two different approaches.
If you have FEDERAL student loans:
- Start by going to the National Student Loan Data System
- Click on “Find My Servicer” buttons
- Log in with your FSA ID. This is the same log in that you use when completing the FAFSA. If you don’t have one, you can easily create one on the Federal Student Aid website.
- Accept the Terms and Conditions by clicking the Accept button.
- Once you log in, you’ll see a heading for My Loans. Click that option and a dropdown menu appears. Select "Servicer History"
- The name of your servicer will be presented, as well as their website and phone number
Or, you can call the Federal Student Aid Information Center (FSAIC) at 800-433-3243 to find out who your loan servicer is.
If you have PRIVATE student loans, you can review your loan statements to find your lender’s contact information.
Why Is Important To Know Who My Loan Servicer Is?
- To confirm loan types, amounts, outstanding balances of each loan, and interest rates
- Update your contact information
- Set up automatic payments or make a one-time payment
- Choose, change or research repayment plans
- Apply for deferment or forbearance
