The Teaching and Clinical Laureate designation at UMass Lowell is a prestigious distinction recognizing the enduing contributions of our full-time teaching and clinical faculty.

This designation reflects our commitment to recognizing excellence across faculty roles and to maintaining lasting connections with colleagues who have made a significant impact on our students and the university.

Application Process For Laureate Status:

  • Eligibility: Retired faculty at the rank of full teaching or full clinical professor who have demonstrated sustained excellence in teaching, mentorship, and service to the university.
  • Nomination Process: Nominations may be initiated by department chairs to the dean, who forwards them to the provost, for final approval by the chancellor. Self-nominations are accepted.

UMass Lowell provides further resources to keep laureate faculty active and connected. Below are additional offerings:

  • Senior Adjunct Faculty Status: Laureate faculty who wish to teach part-time will be granted the status of senior adjunct faculty.
  • Mentoring Programs: Laureate faculty are invited to mentor junior faculty members or students, contributing their expertise to help guide new generations of scholars. For more information, contact: Faculty_Success@uml.edu.
  • Access to the Faculty Success Center: Laureate faculty can enjoy access to tools and resources, including academic workshops, and guidance on staying involved with the university community.   • Bookstore Discount: Laureate faculty can take advantage of the UMass Lowell bookstore for most university-branded apparel and gifts (excluding textbooks and some electronics).
  • Learning in Retirement Association (LIRA): Laureate faculty can engage in lifelong learning through the Learning in Retirement Association, which provides seminars, workshops, and discussion groups on various topics.
