Department of Chemical Engineering

Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Chemical Engineering is to prepare students for a wide variety of positions as practicing chemical engineers or for graduate studies in engineering and science. The curriculum provides a solid foundation in mathematics, science and engineering, and provides the knowledge, skills and resources for continued learning and professional development over a lifetime. The program emphasizes its strength in processing and manufacturing and draws on the scholarly achievements of its faculty to integrate traditional chemical engineering topics with specialized studies in the contemporary fields of bioengineering, nanomaterials engineering and nuclear engineering. Chemical engineering graduates have the ability and knowledge to immediately contribute to solving today’s engineering problems.

Overview/Description

The Department of Chemical Engineering provides undergraduate and graduate programs. The Chemical Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Chemical Engineering. The Chemical Engineering: Nuclear Engineering Option program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Chemical Engineering and Nuclear Engineering. Faculty and graduate students are involved in state-of-the-art interdisciplinary research addressing challenging scientific and engineering issues. Undergraduates are encouraged to work with faculty and graduate students in the research programs.
