7 Habits of highly effective people certificate program

Based on the proven principles found in Dr. Stephen R. Covey’s best-selling business book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. This program helps your organization achieve sustained superior results by focusing on making individuals and leaders more effective. Participants gain hands-on experience, applying timeless principles that yield greater productivity, improved communication, strengthened relationships, increased influence, and laser-like focus on critical priorities. This 10.5 hour program will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to Noon on October 5, 12 and 19. Participants must commit to the entire sequence of dates and times to receive a certificate.

Career Development Certificate Program

The workshops in this series offer participants with ways to enhance their professional skills along with an introduction to LinkedIn for Beginners and advanced users. Participants must attend 3 out of the 5 workshops in order to receive a certificate. This certificate program is facilitated by the Career Services & Cooperative Education Center.

Effective Communication Skills Certificate Program

This series is offered both as in-depth learning opportunities and as individual workshops that employees can register for to support growth in specific topic areas. Participants must attend 5 out of the 9 workshops to receive a certificate.

University Budgeting Certificate Program

The Budget Office series covers essential budgeting skills and responsibilities including campus practices for creating and monitoring a budget. Participants must attend all 3 sessions to receive a certificate.

EC6: Managing Up Workshop

ECS1: Presenting at Work Workshop

This workshop explores skills for a more effective delivery in meetings, conferences and general public events. It is appropriate for both beginners and experienced speakers who are seeking a refresher. We'll begin by establishing a benchmark for each participant. Then, we will discuss the physical elements - eye contact, voice and other non-verbal skills - that promote a greater sense of dynamism, confidence and credibility while presenting a message. As time allows, we may also touch on the effective use of visual aids and taking questions from an audience. The sessions are designed to be highly participatory and fast moving. There will be numerous exercises and some video recording designed to reinforce skills learned.

ECS3: Building Strong & Positive Relationships Workshop

Every day we need to interact with others in the workplace. Our success depends on effectively connecting and communicating with them. In this session we will explore the concept of a growth mindset and how to adopt it towards others. We will look at how to balance our communications and interactions with others using skills of inquiry (asking questions) and advocacy (stating opinions). We will also learn how to identify and build some high quality connections to support our work and career. Finally, we will identify small ways to connect with those we do not know well in the workplace. At the end of the session, we will walk away with simple, yet effective ways to foster positive relationships at work. Learning objectives: define the difference between a fixed and growth mindset and foster a growth mindset towards others; balance inquiry and advocacy skills for strong communications and connection; build high quality relationships at work for our growth and support; utilize simple skills to connect with those we do not know well in the workplace; and develop an action plan to apply these principles.

Coping with difficult situation is a tough job at best, but the fact is that we all come in contact with these feelings and consequences that result from repeated encounters with difficult situations are most often cited as a major cause of work-related stress. In order to maintain a respectful and health workplace, it is crucial that we be able to identify and manage these challenging situations in the workplace.

The goal of LinkedIn is to allow registered members to establish and document networks of people they know and trust professionally. LinkedIn for Beginners provides participants with a general introduction to LinkedIn with an emphasis on developing your profile and initial connections. Join nearly 3,000 current and past UMass Lowell employees on LinkedIn.

CD2: LinkedIn Advanced

LinkedIn is a social networking site designed specifically for the business community. The goal of LinkedIn is to allow registered members to establish and document networks of people they know and trust professionally. LinkedIn Advanced provides participants with tips on using LinkedIn to engage and develop your professional network. Additionally, participants will learn how to enhance their own ¿professional brand¿ using some great LinkedIn tools.

CD3: How to Develop Professional Connections on Campus

Those around you not only help you get your work done, they are critical to understanding opportunities or challenges in your work. This program provides participants with strategies for developing your professional network across campus.

EC3: DiSC Understanding Your Style & Conflict Workshop

Fight or flight? In reality, there are more than just two responses to conflict. Each of us, and each DiSC style, reacts to conflict in a unique way. We have our own goals, our own fears, and our own ways to get what we need. This module helps participants understand their reactions to conflict and how these reactions affect those around them. It also helps them discover more constructive ways to deal with conflict.


PLEASE NOTE: Prerequiste - Participants must attend DiSC: Understanding Behavioral Styles before attending this workshop.

This 3-hour workshop helps you identify your strengths and develop an action plan to capitalize on them. The focus is on developing your existing talents into even greater strengths. This workshop is based on the book, StrengthsFinder 2.0, or Strengths Based Leadership by Tom Rath. With strategies for applying your strengths, StrengthsFinder 2.0 will change the way you look at yourself, your colleagues, and the unique contributions employees can make to building a strengths culture at work.

Note: All participants will need to complete the on-line survey before the session and bring their completed profile to this workshop. Once your registration is confirmed, you will receive the information for the on-line survey by email.
