Supervisory Leadership Development Program (SLDP)
This certificate program offers in-depth learning for supervisors* and managers* who seek to establish or enhance the broad range of knowledge, skills and abilities required for effective supervision. The program covers topics such as understanding leadership and behavioral styles, dealing with employee conflicts, workforce planning and implementing campus policies. Organized around the themes of managing self, others, the work, and the system, the program offers both new and seasoned supervisors the opportunity to learn and partner with supervisors from across the campus. This program is designed as an integrated curriculum and individual sessions in this program may not be taken separately. To receive a certificate of completion, participants must attend all six sessions.

Day 1: General Principles of Leadership | This workshop will help managers at all levels to better create a workplace environment within which all employees can be more engaged and motivated. Day 2: CliftonStrengths | Rooted in positive psychology, and previously branded as StrengthsFinder, CliftonStrengths provides individuals with an understanding of the talents that make them unique. By focusing on what comes naturally to each individual, CliftonStrengths allows people to maximize their potential - personally and professionally. The assessment consists of 177 items and takes approximately 35 minutes to complete. Upon completion of the assessment, individuals have access to reports regarding their natural talent themes and action items for developing their talents into true strengths. | Thu. Day 3: The Hard Stuff is the Soft Stuff | In this workshop, you’ll learn ways to help employees reach their full potential and thereby view themselves as essential to the business. You’ll learn to build your employees’ self-worth by demonstrating appropriate authenticity, vulnerability, serving others, giving respect, reducing fear and learning from mistakes. You’ll also explore an area of growth for you to better utilize the soft stuff with your employees. Through interactive workshop activities and discussions, you’ll delve into these concepts and learn how to apply them to your own leadership experiences. Day 4: The Leader As Coach | In this interactive session, participants will learn what coaching is and what coaching isn't; why coaching is important; the necessary skills managers need to be an effective coach; the various mindsets managers will need to overcome to be effective coaches and a simple coaching method to use back on the job to formally and informally coach their employees. | Thu. Day 5: Emotional Intelligence as a Leadership Predictor
