The Marching Band's musical program is specially arranged for the ensemble, drawn from the classics, jazz, rock and popular idioms. Music and motion are combined through original visual design. The color guard and twirler sections complete the visual presentation of the program. The band consists of instrumentalists, including guitar, ebass and synthesizer. Participation in the Marching Band will count for two credits. The band rehearses in the fall (through November) on Monday and Friday nights, with music rehearsals on Wednesdays in Durgin Hall on South Campus. Performances are scheduled on weekends, from September through November. Marching Band Camp, free to all students, takes place in August, two weeks before school begins, to acquaint old and new members with the visual and music program of the upcoming season.
With members representative of all majors and colleges, the band is truly a microcosm of the university in cultural and academic diversity. Described as being on the "...cutting edge of the idiom," the University Marching Band has been and continues to be both an asset and a source of pride for the University.
