The Office of Residence Life is committed to the personal and academic success of each residential student. The staff seeks to provide a safe, interactive and well-maintained living and learning environment while preparing students to be engaged citizens.

The Office of Residence Life is also committed to the professional development of the Graduate Fellows, and offers extensive professional development opportunities within the university. Professional development funding for opportunities outside of UMass Lowell will be reviewed by Residence Life and will be available depending on the needs of the department and the availability of resources.


The Assistant Area Coordinator (AAC) Graduate Fellow assists the Area Coordinator as needed in the overall management of a residential complex. This includes participation in and oversight of occupancy management processes, including the coordination of room changes, roommate conflict mediation, health and safety inspections, work orders, room condition forms, keys, and the opening and closing of the complex.

The AAC Graduate Fellow assists in the selection, training, and supervision of paraprofessional RA staff. This is done through regular one-on-one meetings, semester evaluations, and functional supervision of administrative processes in assigned complex. The AAC Graduate Fellow is expected to maintain regular posted office hours designed to support paraprofessional RA staff and the residential student population. The AAC Graduate Fellow will complete all necessary paperwork, hold student conduct meetings and, and implement residential curriculum programming.

In addition to in-hall responsibilities, the AAC Graduate Fellow will participate in the campus duty rotation and provide crisis intervention as necessary, will assist with general office functions and respond to inquiries from members of the university community and the public. The AAC Graduate Fellow will also perform other related duties as assigned. Some evening, late night, and weekend work is required. This position is required to live on campus and includes a single bedroom within a shared university apartment (shared with one other graduate fellow) and a meal plan during the academic semester to allow the position to participate in the campus duty rotation.


The Residential Leadership Graduate Fellow (RLGF) reports to the Associate Director for Inclusion and Residential Leadership (ADIRL), the Residential Leadership Graduate Fellow (RLGF) provides advising, leadership development, and support for UMass Lowell's chapters of the Residence Hall Association and National Residence Hall Honorary. The GFRL helps to create a residential environment that is conducive to the development of students and that is inclusive to students of all identities, backgrounds, and experiences.

The RLGF serves as an advisor to the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH). The RGLF conducts weekly meetings with the executive boards and attends general body meetings. They work to develop leadership development for the leadership of both student organizations and attend regional conferences such as NEACURH.

The Recruitment & Conduct Graduate Fellow (RCGF) reports to the Association Director of Recruitment & Development (ADRD), The Residential Education Recruitment and Conduct Graduate Fellow (RCGF) provides assistance with the department's recruitment and leadership development initiatives and supporting the department's student conduct processes. The RCGA helps to create a residential environment that is conducive to the development of students and that is inclusive to students of all identities, backgrounds, and experiences.

The RCGF assist with the development and management of the recruitment and selection of paraprofessional resident advisor (RA) staff including advertising, information sessions, interviews, selection meetings, and communication with candidates. They assist with Residential Advisor Leadership Development which occurs throughout the year and includes major trainings in August and January. They serve as a student conduct hearing officer and assists with the distribution and management of student conduct cases in the Office of Residence Life.

This position is a live-off position that does not include housing.


The Residence Life Academic Initiatives Graduate Fellow (RLAIGF) assists the Associate Director for Academic Partnerships with the coordination of academic initiatives for the department. The RLAIGF creates specialized events and initiatives for the department, and assists in the assessments, planning, implementation, and/or evaluation of assigned initiatives and projects. The RLAIGF will co-chair the Academic initiatives, including ones they may create themselves. The RLAIGF also serves as a resource to residential students and refers to appropriate campus resources.

The RLAIGF will also assist with the overall growth and development of the residential curriculum and the Living Learning Community programs. They will do this by closely working with the ADAP and the Assistant Director for Living Learning Communities. The Graduate Fellow will attend various departmental and divisional meetings, hold weekly office hours, and develop various trainings and reports. Some evening, late night, and weekend work is required.
