Faculty & Staff Hardware Standards

UMass Lowell's IT group has worked with the university staff and faculty to develop a pool of standardly configured systems. These recommendations are based on cost, convenience and, in event of a failure, campus-provided IT support for your equipment on both Windows and Apple platforms.


How do I purchase a computer from these hardware standards?

  1. Place your order.
    • If you want to purchase a computer from the list of hardware standards, send an email to: Indicate which computer you want to purchase along with the speed type that will fund the purchase. The help center will place the order for you.
  2. Install your new computer.
    • Once the computer arrives, the help center will schedule an appointment to install the computer and transfer all data from your old computer to the new computer.
  3. If you have research or business needs that require a computer different from the devices on the supported configuration document, IT can work with you to get a device that does. Please note that discounts will be less attractive on these custom systems. In all cases, computers purchased via any means must meet IT security and supportability standards including:
    • Intel vPro capability
    • Ability to run the campus malware protection
    • Wireless AC adapter in mobile deviceĀ
