Tracking Student Participation Through Attendance

Students will see a page that says Check In and a field to enter a code below which is a button that says Check In. To the left the menu shows they are on the Check In page and below is a link to see Records.

The Attendance App.

The Attendance application was developed by Web Services in collaboration with the Academic Technology Team to provide instructors with a method of tracking attendance. After other third party applications and polling software was researched it became clear that this application would serve a large section of the UMass Lowell community.

Instructor Quick Guide (pdf) - Attendance data can be used to compute participation points, in accordance with the course syllabus. Often class engagement and participation can be used as an indicator for student success. Go to uml.edu/attendance to get started.

Student Quick Guide (pdf) - Students can access the attendance app with any device by logging in with your student email credentials. Students can check their own records from the Records option on the menu.

Page is titled Records, the menu on the left shows the option Check In is normal font, Records is now bolded. The window shows the classes the student is enrolled in pulled from SIS listed with the course catalog number, then Title, then section number and then the SIS Class Number and lastly a calendar icon. They can click on a calendar icon to the far left to see what dates they attended class.

On-Campus Blackboard

BLACKBOARD ATTENDANCE (pdf) - Blackboard has a built in Attendance feature that allows the faculty member to enter attendance manually. Points can be associated and displayed as a Score or Percentage.
