Reflection

I was originally in school for creative writing and had the opportunity to continue with Italian throughout my time at UML, building off the four years I had of Italian studies in high school. Publishing in CANAL was a great opportunity for blending those interests and also provided motivation for working to publish work across multiple journals. Writing in Italian, creatively, was an absolute first for me. I was writing poetry, too, which was not my typical genre, so I had the chance to practice a different part of the craft.

Publishing in CANAL was among the first experiences I had with literary magazines. I later went on to participate with UML’s The Offering and later, UNH’s magazine BARNSTORM.

CANAL is on my resume for writing, for sure! It is among my earliest publications so it holds a special place in my heart. I have since been published in other literary magazines.

Read “Selected Poetry” Canal Issue I (2017).
