Global Studies students are encouraged to attend conferences and submit their work to journals. Below is some information on suggested conferences and travel funding opportunities.

UMass Lowell Forms and Applications

  • Dissertation Defense Information
    • Submitting your Dissertation requires multiple steps. Please see this website for a check-list of required steps when submitting your dissertation.
  • Forms for TA/RA
    • This website provides multiple forms that Teaching Assistants/Research Assistants will find helpful, including Reduced Credit Load forms and the TA/RA Waiver Form for online classes.
  • Travel Registration
    • Before traveling to a conference or event the University requires either the Domestic Travel Registration or International Travel Registration application to be filled out in order to authorize your travel.
  • PDA Application
    • The University Graduate Student Association provides some conference travel funding, $500 for those presenting and $250 for attending a conference. Applications accepted on a rolling basis, but apply early as funds may run out.
  • GRGA Application
    • The University provides some funding for training and research. There is one deadline per semester. If the funded project has a published paper then the recipient of the award may apply for a second award
  • Graduate Academic Petition (pdf)
    • Students who have completed a master's degree may work with the Global Studies Program Director to transfer a certain number of credits from their master's program that will count towards their PhD. Please use this form to facilitate this process.
  • Global Studies Conference Funding Application
    • The Global Studies Ph.D. Program offers conference-travel support awards to students presenting research or creative work at international, national, or regional conferences in their respective fields of study.

Journal submissions

  • Global studies students are encouraged to submit their work to journals.  Students are encouraged to speak with faculty members and Global Studies director regarding the appropriate journals for their area of interest.  Further information is also available within the Global Studies handbook.
