The Global Studies Ph.D. Program offers conference-travel support awards to students presenting research or creative work at international, national, or regional conferences in their respective fields of study. These presentations may be student-initiated or conducted in conjunction with a faculty member. In either case, the student must be listed on the conference program as a primary presenter, and the work must have been conducted while a student at UMass Lowell. Students are required to have a faculty sponsor who has been involved in the development of the presented work. For budgetary planning purposes, the review cycle is divided into fall and spring requests. Contingent on funding availability, there may be an additional opportunity for students with Summer-2022 presentations to apply later in the spring.
  • Students can access funds once per year, on a first come first serve basis;
  • You can apply for Dean’s travel funds in addition, but in this case Graduate students are expected to have first applied for Graduate Student Association (GSA) funding prior to submission of a Dean’s office request. Keep in mind that applications for Dean’s funds also have a deadline Oct. 1st for Fall and Jan. 24 for Spring;
  • All students receiving any university funding must apply for and receive authorization prior to travel in order to be reimbursed. The online travel authorization portal may be found at the UMass travel registry: (select “Lowell” from the menu on the left to see the student portal)
  • Process for submission - Please submit the information requested in the submission template to Angelica_DuranMartinez@uml.edu and copy Jason_Carter@uml.edu.
