Students are placed in high-quality internships to gain experience applying disciplinary, critical thinking, and communication skills in professional settings. Placement sites include local, regional, national, and global organizations, including non-profits, government agencies, schools and businesses. Interns complete 120 hours of professional tasks determined by the needs of the organization and the interests, strengths and abilities of the student. In-person, hybrid, remote, and flexible schedules are possible. Weekly class meetings support student professional development. We will build valuable skills and expertise, gain hands-on experience, grow networks, strengthen resumes, expand transferable skills, develop confidence, and find purpose through meaningful community engagement.
This course is open to Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (FAHSS) majors and minors with at least 45 credits and completion of College Writing II or equivalent; also, by instructor permission.
Interns in this multidisciplinary course will perform professional activities clearly related to a FAHSS major. From teaching music or working with clients at a shelter to creating marketing materials or conducting oral histories—there are countless possibilities! All internships must be approved to ensure they meet academic and ethical standards.
To participate, students should enroll in the course and email the instructor with information about your preferences for a placement. If you already found a position and plan to apply or have already been offered the position, you will need to provide information about that internship to have it approved for the course. If you have not found a position, let us know what career fields you may be considering or type of internship you’d like to find. We will help you secure a worthwhile career connected experience. Depending on the type of internship, you can earn either AH or SS Breadth of Knowledge credit.
