Purpose

The Transformative Internship and Engagement (TIE) hub provides opportunities for students to engage in experiences that are transformative for both them and for their community by encouraging collaborations, social engagement, critical thinking, personal reflection, and risk-taking in a supportive environment. Students who participate in TIE hub offerings will develop in four areas:

Academic

  • Build and enhance academic skills by connecting coursework to the real world
  • Engage in multi- and interdisciplinary learning such as:
    • Practicing complex problem solving
    • Discovering new insights through creative and transformative thinking
    • Supporting social justice and creating beauty and meaning
    • Generating groundbreaking ideas/initiatives

Career

  • Develop professional social capital
  • Explore interests and options for career paths
  • Enhance professionalism integral to career readiness
  • Develop new skills and gain expertise
  • Discover their calling/vocation

Society

  • Engage in the civic life of their communities
  • Spark the desire to continue to contribute to society in meaningful ways
  • Discern how to promote and enact positive social change
  • Feel a part of something important that transcends the individual

Personal

  • Develop interpersonal connections and lasting friendships
  • Build confidence, self-esteem, and resilience
  • Practice effective strategies for the transition to work/career
  • Discover new passions/ find what makes you feel alive/ what brings meaning to “your one wild and precious life”
