Pre-Health Clubs at UMass Lowell

Our pre-health students and alumni are active in student/alumni run clubs for students/alumni interested in medical schools, dental schools and physician assistant programs. UMass Lowell clubs are all managed by Campus Groups. See below for clubs that may be of interest.

Partner Programs

Early Medical School Selection Program (EMSSP)

This program prepares students to navigate the transition to medical school through rigorous undergraduate coursework, early exposure to the medical school curriculum and culture, and the development of a unique and supportive community. Admission through the EMSSP grants provisional acceptance into Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine at the completion of undergraduate study. Students who are interested in applying for this program will need a letter of recommendation from the pre-health advisor, Carol Myers. UMass Chan Medical School Baccalaureate MD (BaccMD) Pathway Program

UMass Lowell students are also eligible to apply to the UMass Chan Medical School Baccalaureate MD (BaccMD) Pathway Program. This multiphase program provides selected students from the UMass undergraduate campuses with the opportunity of provisional acceptance into T.H. Chan School of Medicine at UMass Chan Medical School. Students who are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds or who will be First Generation (four-year) College graduates are eligible to apply to the BaccMD Program Students who are interested in applying for this program will need a letter of recommendation from the pre-health advisor, Carol Myers and should contact her by email: carol_myers@uml.edu about applying.

UMass Medical, Lead, Empower, Advocate, Deliver (LEAD)@Lahey Early Assurance pipeline

UMass Lowell students who are currently in their sophomore year are eligible to be considered for this program.  Ideal students are those who are academically successful, motivated towards medicine and leadership and come from backgrounds of those who have historically not been represented in medicine. This includes, but is not limited to, those who are financially or educationally disadvantaged, first generation to college or those most likely to serve our communities that have disproportionally less access to healthcare.  Ideal candidates are Massachusetts residents and/or those who are likely to serve our communities. Students need to maintain a certain GPA and get a pre-determined score on the MCAT to ultimately be accepted to the LEAD@Lahey track at UMass Chan Medical School

Early Acceptance Program at LECOM (Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine)

Freshman, Sophomores and Juniors are able to apply to this program. Students need to maintain a certain GPA and get a pre-determined score on the MCAT and are automatically accepted to LECOM. If accepted into this program, students will not apply to any other medical school unless they first withdraw from this program.  Students who fail to maintain their GPA and course requirements may be dismissed from this program. This program is also available to high school students, who if accepted, would need to attend a school with this affiliation, such as UML.

The Guaranteed Interview Program at ICOM (Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine)

UMass Lowell students, up to ten (10) each year, will be guaranteed an interview if they meet all general admission requirements, including minimum MCAT and GPA as published on ICOM’s website at the time of application; and complete all required prerequisite courses as published on ICOM’s website at the time of application.
