Shanice Kelly is a leader in multiple campus clubs because she wants to get more students of color involved in STEM, especially space science programs.

If I want to see certain things happen, it doesn’t seem right to leave it to other people to do them.

Transformative Experience

"I used my Co-op Scholarship to study abroad in Prague in the summer of 2016, completing six credits of psychology coursework with UMass Lowell professor Dr. Jana Sladkova and various faculty members from the historic Charles University. This program enabled me to not only take fascinating courses totally outside my comfort zone, but also to explore one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Europe. We used our time outside of class to see the sights in Prague and go on day trips to other beautiful and historical sites throughout the Czech Republic. It was a transformative experience, and I learned a lot about myself and the world around me and made fantastic new friends as we took courses and traveled together!"

Valuable & Insightful

“Throughout my time at the Natick Army Research Center, I gained valuable experience both as a chemist and an adult. I learned new techniques such as fiber extrusion, knitting and various analytical techniques. This was my first real job away from home and it gave me some insight on how the real world works.”
