Admission Standards

Admission Standards

General admissions standards are outlined in the graduate catalog. Be sure to review the program description carefully for any admissions standards set specifically for your program.

Neither the Office of Graduate Admissions nor the graduate coordinator for each program publish numerical admissions standards such as minimum scores for standardized tests. Coordinators have consistently chosen successful graduate candidates when they have had the flexibility to review all elements of a student’s application and make their admission decision on each student’s strengths.

Standardized Tests

All doctoral and master’s degree programs at UMass Lowell require the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) General Test, with the exception of the Master of Business Administration (MBA), which requires the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

The College of Education Initial Licensure Programs require copies of the appropriate MTEL scores. Other Master of Education and Education Specialist programs require proof of an initial or professional teacher license appropriate to the field. Not all M.Ed. and Ed.S. programs require the GRE. Doctoral programs in education require GRE scores. Please see the College of Education for specific examination requirements.

Request that the appropriate agency send an official test score report to the Office of Graduate Admissions. UMass Lowell's school code is 3911.
