EPA Environmental Justice Collaborative-Solving Project

The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Environmental Justice (EJ) Collaborative-Solving (CPS) project enabled the Coalition for a Better Acre (CBA) to collaborate with the University of Massachusetts Lowell Center for Family, Work, and Community and Lowell Community Health Center (LCHC) to develop and implement locally-based solutions that significantly addressed local environmental and/or public health issues such as solid waste disposal and treatment, housing, and indoor air quality.

This project increased community awareness of these health issues and developed community-based strategies, through individual action, neighborhood action, and in the decision-making process of the City of Lowell’s Master Plan for housing redevelopment and revitalization. The CPS model assists disproportionately affected communities in developing proactive, strategic, and visionary approaches to address their environmental justice issues and achieve community health and sustainability.
