Employees are expected to report any potential sexual harassment or sexual misconduct. Officials with Authority have additional responsibilities.

All employees who are NOT considered Confidential Employees as defined in the Equal Opportunity Nondiscrimination and Harassment Plan and Case Processing Manual (pdf) (p. 13) are required to report incidents of Sexual Harassment a form of Sex Discrimination under Title IX, as defined in these Guidelines, to the Title IX Coordinator.

Confidential Employees are not required to report incidents to the Title IX Coordinator. However, Confidential Employees must provide contact information for the Title IX Coordinator to the reporting individual.

Reports may be submitted via the online reporting tool on the UMass Lowell Equal Opportunity website, via email at equal_opportunity@uml.edu, or by calling (978) 934-3565.

Please report the names, contact information, date, time and location of the potential occurrences. Please let the person you spoke with know that the Title IX Coordinator will reach out to discuss options and support resources. Your report to the Title IX Coordinator, and the person's meeting with the Title IX Coordinator, do not automatically begin a Title IX grievance process without a formal complaint from the reporting party.  In some circumstances, the university may initiate an investigation without a formal complaint.

Requests for Confidentiality

A person with a concern or complaint cannot be guaranteed confidentiality. The university has a responsibility to respond to the extent possible to formal complaints, and potentially to some other concerns, even if a complaint is not filed. A decision to keep a concern confidential would prevent the university from fully investigating and responding to it, should it need to do so. The university may review the concern for the purpose of ending sexual harassment, preventing its recurrence, and remedying its effects. For these reasons, confidentiality cannot be assured. Only Confidential Employees can provide confidentiality. However, privacy will be maintained to the extent possible while complying with the requirements of university policies, state and federal law.

Report a Concern Online

There are multiple ways for faculty, staff, students and visitors to share concerns regarding inappropriate behavior or actions. You can do so online, by phone, in person or anonymously. For all your reporting options, visit the Report a Concern page.

If you have a disability or limited English proficiency and need reasonable accommodations or language services to file a complaint or to access the university’s programs or activities, please contact the Office of Equal Opportunity and Outreach at 978-934-3565.

Our office reviews online and phone reports between 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. If this is an emergency, please contact the UMass Lowell Police Department at 978-934-4911. Officials with Authority must report concerns of which they learn within 24 hours.
