In 2022 the Rist Institute for Sustainability and Energy at UMass Lowell launched an indoor farmers market in partnership with Mill City Grows and several other local vendors. This initiative is an extension of our Urban Agriculture Program.

"The winter market makes it easy to shop local, meet new businesses, and discover what Lowell has to offer," says Craig Thomas, assistant director for the Office of Sustainability.

Taste the Acre

The Taste of the Acre initiative is a showcase of the diverse and exceptional food businesses located in the Acre neighborhood of Lowell. This area has long been a welcoming gateway for immigrants, a rich history that is reflected in its thriving food establishments. The program aims to support these businesses by attracting new customers to the neighborhood and collaborating with business owners to expand their operations. A portion of the funding for 'Taste of the Acre' comes from the Acre Transformative Development Partnership, a program managed by MassDevelopment.

Take a tour of all the participating Taste of the Acre establishments via Google maps.
