With newly added speakers and invaluable student voices contributing to each session, we’ll explore pressing topics on academic honesty and generative AI.

9 to 9:15 a.m.:
Opening Remarks and Welcome
Speaker: Julie Nash
Kick off the day with an introduction to the challenges and opportunities of upholding academic integrity. Julie Nash will set the stage for thought-provoking discussions on how we can collaboratively shape a culture of honesty in education.
9:15 to 10:30 a.m.:
Keynote - Who's Cheating Who? Reconsidering The Value Proposition of Generative AI, Higher Education & The Way We See Students
Speaker: Lance Eaton
Generative AI is transforming classrooms—should we ignore it or integrate it? Lance Eaton will challenge us to think critically about AI’s place in education, questioning whether avoiding it undermines our students' readiness for a technology-driven world. This keynote will offer insights into creating a balanced, ethically engaged approach to AI.
10:30 to 11:30 a.m.:
Panel: Who Can It Be Now? Confronting the Complexities of Cheating in College
Panelists: Elizabeth Altman, Keith Mitchell, Charles Thomas Wilkes
Students: Adjoa Adjepong and Himani Pareshbhai
Cheating isn’t just a student issue—it’s a multifaceted challenge that impacts the entire educational community. In this panel, faculty and students will discuss the various pressures that drive academic dishonesty and explore innovative strategies to foster engagement and reduce cheating by design. Join us in breaking down stereotypes and rethinking approaches to support a more honest learning environment.

Noon to 1 p.m.: Panel: The Impact of AI on Campus Integrity and Academic Success
Panelists: Michael Black, Leslie Farris, Romy Guthier, Karen (Jingrong) Lin, Donna Mellen
Student: Nadia Sahila
AI tools offer both opportunities and challenges. This panel will explore how AI influences academic integrity and support genuine learning experiences. Discussions will include strategies for teaching students ethical AI use and identifying essential learning outcomes in an AI-enhanced landscape.
1 to 2 p.m.:
Session: Managing and Mentoring Academic Integrity at UML: A Campus-Wide Approach
Speakers: Julie Nash, Stephanie Block, Amit Deokar, Wael Kamal, Shaina Roy
Our final session will feature campus leaders discussing UML’s strategies for supporting academic integrity. Learn about reporting protocols, transparency with students, and mentorship strategies that foster a culture of integrity across all colleges. Faculty will gain insights into making academic honesty a core value in their teaching.

Closing Reflections and Actionable Takeaways

Conclude the day by sharing reflections and gathering actionable takeaways. This final session will summarize steps faculty, administrators, and students can take to support academic integrity across UMass Lowell.
