Biosketch
Donna Mellen is the Executive Director of Academic Technology. She provides strategic leadership for learning technologies, artificial intelligence, accessibility, and digital innovation. She helped lead the University's transition from Blackboard to Canvas and serves as Co-Principal Investigator on a $1.98 million U.S. Department of Education Career and AI Readiness while Remixing Open Textbooks through an Equity Lens (CA-ROTEL) grant in partnership with Framingham State University and Northern Essex Community College to develop Open Educational Resources (OER) that integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and career readiness into teaching and learning.
Donna serves on the University's Academic Technology Committee, AI Steering Committee, Digital Accessibility Working Group, Promotion and Tenure and Student Feedback on Instruction teams. She also represents UMass Lowell on the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education Open and Low-Cost Educational Resources Advisory Council (OLERAC).
Since joining UMass Lowell in 2008, Donna has held leadership roles supporting faculty and advancing teaching and learning through technology. She continues to collaborate closely with the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Julie Nash, and the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) on strategic initiatives that enhance the student and faculty experience.
