Airtame

Airtame is the platform that makes screens on-campus easy to use!

Airtame enables faculty to wirelessly share content from laptops, tablets, and other devices to classroom displays without cables or complicated setup. Faculty can use the Airtame app, AirPlay, or Miracast to present content while moving freely around the classroom and, when applicable, share to multiple screens.

Please see the Airtame knowledge article for more information.

Please note: currently, Airtame does not function with iPad.

Explain Everything

Explain Everything is a whiteboard application can that be used to draw, diagram, and annotate just about any file. It also has a self-contained recorder for both audio and video. Instructional Technology can supply a license for this software as needed. For more information, please see the Explain Everything knowledge article.

Mirroring 360

You can connect your iPad or other tablet-based computers wirelessly to the in-room projector in all UML classrooms without using a wired network connection and/or a dongle.

This saves you time and allows the iPad to be used more freely throughout the classroom. Using a stylus makes it even easier to annotate on images or applications. Audio from your iPad is also carried into the room’s audio system.

To make this work, several applications must be used:

the Mirroring360 app on the classroom computer (already installed in all classrooms). Mirroring360 icon

Mirroring Assist (available for free) installed and running on your iPad.  Mirroring Assist app

Look for the Mirroring Assist app from Splashtop in either the App Store, Google Play Store. Chromebooks or other Android devices require another step.

For detailed information about connecting your UML-based iPad wirelessly, please refer to the Mirroring360 knowledge article.

For Mac, Android or Chrome-based devices, see Splashtop's official documentation.

UMass Lowell's Lecture Capture technology gives you the ability to record your classes and offer to your students an additional tool while taking classes.

Lecture capture through Echo360 lets you record classes, special speakers, training sessions, and selectively send the captured sessions to your students, either directly via a website or through Canvas.

The Echo360 lecture capturing application is available in more than 95 classrooms campus-wide. There is also a separate application available that allows you to record from a laptop or desktop machine anywhere.

Personal Capture Software (PCAP)

This free application allows you to make your own screencast recordings, recording your screen and your web camera (if desired). You may record as much as you wish on to your computer (PC or Mac), do some simple editing and then upload the recording to our Echo360 platform. An Echo360 account is required to publish the recording (making it available to all). Recordings can be made without an internet connection. Submit a request via the IT Portal to request an Echo360 account or to access PCAP software.

Lecture Capture Policies

Protecting Privacy and Intellectual Property in Lecture Capture

No class will be recorded without the expressed consent of the faculty member.

Lecture recordings will be restricted to UMass Lowell students via their UMass Lowell username/password. Other access controls are available on a per-course basis.

Viewers cannot download the captured classes. All content will be delivered using streaming technology, thus restricting the portability of the recordings. Faculty, however, can request that audio and/or video of the class be made available for downloading by students.

The Instructor retains Intellectual Property rights of the recorded material. Additional information regarding Intellectual Property can be found on the UMass Lowell guidelines.

Recordings can be edited to remove undesired material or conversations by either faculty or by an authorized operator of the lecture capture system.

Every effort is made to not capture student's likenesses, as the system is designed to capture the instructor and the front of the classroom, however, student's audio participation might be recorded.

Retention Policy

Please note that retention policies have recently changed.

Recorded lectures will be kept for one year from their date of recording. After this time, recordings will be placed in an archival area for one year, then permanently deleted. Recordings older than 1 year will be automatically archived twice per year, in January and July. Recordings can be retained in an active state for a longer period of time if prior arrangements have been made with the Instructional Technology Services group.

Faculty who are using recorded lectures to supplement an online course must contact the Instructional Technology Services (ITS) group and identify the course name and number to keep those recordings active, otherwise they are first archived then deleted after 2 years from the original recording date. Once recordings are archived, but unavailable for viewing, they can be republished by contacting the ITS group to determine the best storage and delivery options. If the faculty member desires to retain the content for archival purposes longer then the terms outlined in this policy, then he/she will be responsible identifying the content and requesting long-term archival from the Instructional Technology Services group.

Recordings can be edited on the lecture capture server up to 30 days after the recording date to remove undesired material or conversations by either faculty or by an authorized operator of the lecture capture system. After that time, these recordings are automatically compressed and cannot be edited.
