For 125 years, the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lowell has helped young people in Lowell learn, grow and build bright futures. Today, the Club continues that mission by providing a safe, supportive place for youth through academic support, enrichment, leadership development and workforce-focused opportunities.
A valued partner of UMass Lowell, the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lowell has created meaningful opportunities for students to engage in service, experiential learning and career-connected work while strengthening the university’s ties to the city of Lowell. Through volunteering, mentoring and hands-on professional experiences, UMass Lowell students have supported the Club’s mission while gaining practical skills and a deeper understanding of community engagement.
Accepting the Chancellor’s Medal on behalf of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lowell is Executive Director Joe Hungler. A former Club member, Hungler has led the organization for 15 years and brings more than 30 years of experience in youth development. During his tenure, the Club has expanded its reach, strengthened community partnerships and broadened access to critical resources and opportunities for young people through innovative programs in STEM, the arts, leadership, workforce development and cultural enrichment, furthering its mission to break cycles of generational poverty.
