Scholarship
Scholarships are offered to eligible students who are enrolled in the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) program. There are no specific academic major requirements for these scholarships however, scholarships are merit based and therefore, students pursuing a technical major may receive priority in the selection process. AFROTC offers multiple scholarships throughout the cadet’s journey. By alleviating financial strain, AFROTC aims to help the cadet remain laser focused on academic excellence and military training. Nothing is given, everything is earned!
Beginning Senior year in High School, aspiring cadets can apply for the High School Scholarship Program (HSSP). This is a 4-year scholarship that can pay full tuition and fees or up to $18,000, depending on the awarded type. Each come with monthly living stipends and an annual book stipend.
Should the 4-year scholarship opportunity be missed, there is a 3-year, merit-based scholarship opportunity and a 2-year award, known as the General Charles McGee Leadership Award (CMLA), awarded to all cadets who are not already on scholarship and who earn an enrollment allocation for their final two years of school. This award pays up to $18,000 towards tuition and fees and comes with a monthly living stipend and an annual book stipend.
If you are a UMass Lowell student, there is an opportunity for you to earn a Room and Board scholarship as well! This scholarship is a Rate 1 with an Unlimited Meal Plan (~$15k value) and comes with a 3.0 GPA requirement and an outstanding effort and demonstrated potential in the AFROTC program.
Careers
A cadet’s AFROTC career culminates with a Bachelor’s degree and a commission in the World’s Greatest Air or Space Force! Upon graduation, cadets are commissioned as Second Lieutenants and begin their professional careers in a field they were matched to throughout the process. By coupling the academic major with the cadet’s desires and ultimately, the needs of the Force, the new Lieutenants will be prepared for an adventure that few get the opportunity to take!
