Start at Middlesex Community College. Finish at UMass Lowell. Follow a clear, guaranteed pathway.
From Middlesex Community College to UMass Lowell
The Joint UMass Middlesex Pathways, or JUMP, is a joint admissions and transfer program between Middlesex Community college (MCC) and UMass Lowell. If you want a four-year degree and plan to start at MCC, JUMP gives you a structured academic plan, early advising and a direct connection to UMass Lowell. What You Get With JUMP
JUMP gives you a clear, guaranteed pathway including:
- Degree requirements that are locked into place when you join JUMP, so they stay consistent for you from MCC through UMass Lowell, even if the program requirements change later.
- A semester-by-semester course plan that eliminates credit loss and keeps you on track to finish your bachelor's degree on time.
- Early access to UMass Lowell resources while you're still at MCC -- including a UMass Lowell student ID and access to the UMass Lowell libraries, Campus Recreation Center and sporting events.
- A JUMP coach at MCC and a designated contact at UMass Lowell, so you always know who to call when you have questions.
JUMP Pathways and Majors
JUMP launches with five pathways, selected because many MCC students already transfer into these majors, and a clear map helps students complete their degrees faster. Each pathway includes a semester-by-semester course plan showing exactly what to take at MCC so your credits apply cleanly to your UMass Lowell major.
Note: Consult with your MCC advisor to find out which classes you need to take to match the following JUMP programs.
More majors will be added over time. Check back if your intended major isn't listed yet, and talk to an advisor about your options in the meantime.
Is JUMP for Me?
JUMP is built for Middlesex Community college students in specific majors who plan to complete an associate degree and then finish a bachelor's degree at UMass Lowell. JUMP may be a good fit if you:
- Plan to earn an A.A. or A.S. at MCC before transferring to UMass Lowell.
- Are interested in one of the participating JUMP majors.
- Have at least a 2.00 cumulative GPA (some programs require a higher GPA or have other requirements, such as a portfolio).
- Apply before completing 30 credits in your JUMP pathway.
How JUMP Works
JUMP is a four-step process. Follow your plan and you'll arrive at UMass Lowell with your credits counted and your path clear.
- Choose your JUMP pathway. Talk to a JUMP coach or Middlesex Community College advisor early. They'll confirm your intended UMass Lowell major and help you choose the right program map. The earlier you start, the more options you have.
- Apply to JUMP. Complete the JUMP application and agreement provided by your MCC advisor. You'll declare your JUMP major pathway as part of this step. Apply before you finish 30 credits in your pathway.
- Follow your program map at MCC. Follow the semester-by-semester JUMP program map at Middlesex Community College. Sticking to the mapped courses is what makes the guaranteed pathway work, preventing credit loss and extra semesters.
- Transfer to UMass Lowell and finish your degree. When you complete your MCC associate degree in the approved JUMP pathway and meet the agreement requirements, you'll move directly into your UMass Lowell bachelor's program.
Am I Eligible?
You're eligible for JUMP if you:

- Are interested in a participating JUMP major;
- Have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA (or the higher GPA required for your chosen program);

How Do I Join JUMP?

What Support Looks Like
JUMP is built around coordinated support from both campuses, so you always know where you stand and who to ask. As part of the JUMP program, you will have access to:
- A JUMP coach at Middlesex Community College who helps you select the right program map and stay on track throughout your time at MCC.
- A designated contact at UMass Lowell so you have a direct line to your future institution before you transfer.
- Early connection to UMass Lowell resources including library access, the Campus Recreation Center and campus events — while you're still completing your MCC degree.
- Fewer surprises at transfer time. Your pathway is mapped, your credits are accounted for, and your requirements are locked in.
- Do I need to apply to UML right away?
-
No. You start at Middlesex Community College (MCC) and apply formally to the JUMP program after completing your first year.
- Do I get access to UMass Lowell before I transfer?
-
Yes. Once you're admitted into the JUMP program, you'll receive access to UMass Lowell resources while you're still completing your MCC degree. You'll receive a UMass Lowell ID card as well as access to the libraries and Campus Recreation Center, and student access to UMass Lowell sporting events.
- What GPA do I need?
-
You typically need at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA. Some programs require a higher GPA. Your advisor will confirm the requirement for your chosen major. You'll also need to earn a C- or higher in courses you want to transfer from MCC to UMass Lowell.
- What if I need to take a semester off?
-
JUMP includes an option to request a one-semester pause, with the possibility of a second semester if needed. You can step away and return without losing your pathway, as long as you follow the pause process and stay in contact with your advisor.
- Is JUMP different from a regular transfer?
-
Yes. JUMP gives you a mapped plan, locked-in requirements, coordinated advising and early access to UMass Lowell before you transfer.
