Mission

The Department of Music at the University of Massachusetts Lowell strives:

Requirements of the Major

Core Learning Outcomes

  • Acquire instrumental or vocal mastery through regular performance
  • Attain literacy in global musical culture
  • Understand core compositional and analytical techniques covering a broad variety of musical styles 
  • Develop collaborative skills through participation in ensembles

Music Business Learning Outcomes

  • A working knowledge of the structure and practices of the music industry, and other closely related industries 
  • Finely honed skill sets to succeed in the field of their career pathway
  • Develop critical thinking skills that will serve to identify potential areas of development, anticipating trends and shifts in the industry, and the ability to act as an entrepreneur, taking advantage of opportunities and transforming ideas into actions.
