  • Name: Dhruv Shenoy
  • College: Manning School of Business
  • Major: Finance and Accounting
  • Hometown: Westborough, Massachusetts
  • Brief introduction about who you are, your role, and your academic focus:
Hello! My name is Dhruv Shenoy, and I am currently studying Finance and Accounting at the University of Massachusetts Lowell's Manning School of Business. I am an RHSA Peer Leader, with an expected graduation date of May 2028.
  • Favorite hobbies: Sports, Driving, Listening to Music, Playing Sequence & Uno, Traveling, Spending time with Friends and Family
  • What is your favorite thing about UMass Lowell (UML)?
There's so many things to pick from! I think the first thing that comes to mind are the people here. Everyone brings something different to the table; from varying ethnic backgrounds, to different skillsets and personalities, I think the diversity and cultures embraced here are awesome! Another big thing I like is the ability to get involved on campus. Personally, I am fortunate to be a Student Alumni Ambassador, RHSA Peer Leader, Vice President of the International Business Association, Secretary for the Club Soccer Team and South Asian Student Association, and a member of the Real Estate Network Association and UML Sales Team. I have also had the opportunity to work at the Athletics Office as both a Business Operations Assistant and a Legal & Compliance Intern, as well as a Consulting Project Manager at Mill City Consulting.
  • Why did you choose to attend UMass Lowell?
Originally I was planning on going elsewhere to become a student athlete (either for soccer or track.) However, my mom had heard about some guy from my town who went to UML, got good grades, and changed his whole life around, so she wanted me to give Lowell a chance. When I stepped foot onto campus for the first time, I saw what I was looking for: diverse and driven students, modern facilities, engaging faculty, and a vibrant community. Just the overall welcome my family and I received from everyone, I saw a good fit for both parties. Funnily enough, I actually met that guy randomly, as he was speaking on a panel I was sitting in on, and come to find out, I was friends with and knew his younger brother. The distance to my hometown was also a plus, as well as the relative proximity to Boston.
  • What are your future academic and/or career goals?
Academically, I want to ultimately receive an MBA from Harvard University. I'd say career wise I want to be financially independent and in a position where I can retire my parents.
  • What has being involved with the River Hawk Scholars Academy meant to you?
It's meant so much, and the relationships I've created and the friendships that remain only continue to grow by the day! I've seen amazing growth, leadership, and an increase in confidence through my fellow peer/team leaders, faculty, and the students! It's allowed me to grow my network across campuses, different majors, and backgrounds.
  • What inspires you to support RHSA and/or first-generation students?
I'm a big believer in 'paying it forward' and I am grateful to be in a position where I can do so with RHSA.
  • Looking back, what advice would you give to yourself in your first year of college?
Slow down, and spend quality time with those that matter to you most, because you never know what the future will hold.
  • What advice would you give to fellow UMass Lowell students?
Take advantage of every opportunity you get. We have so many resources and support available to us, so use them to help you succeed!
  • What does it mean to you to be a first-generation college student?
I take a lot of pride in being the first to navigate through the US educational system, and the responsibility that comes with it. My family and I get to experience it all at once, and we learn as we go.
  • What inspires you to want to help first-generation students in the RHSA?
I want to make sure every student feels supported. If I've helped even just one student, I know that I have done the right thing in my heart. It's also very heartwarming to hear when freshman come up to you and say "I've heard great things about you as a peer leader and the advice you give us, you're honest and real with us," and that continues to push me forward!
