- Why did you choose to attend UMass Lowell?
I chose to attend UMass Lowell because it offered me strong academic programs while also providing a supportive and diverse community where I could grow both personally and professionally. UMass Lowell gives me opportunities to get involved in leadership roles like being a Peer Leader, which allows me to support other students while developing my own skills - What has being involved with the River Hawk Scholars Academy meant to you?
Being involved with the River Hawk Scholars Academy as a first generation student has meant having a support system that truly understands my experience and challenges. RHSA has provided me with mentorship, resources, and guidance that have helped me navigate college with more confidence and clarity. Most importantly, it has given me a sense of belonging and reminded me that my goals are achievable, not just for me, but for my family as well. - What inspires you to support RHSA and / or first-generation students?
I am inspired to support RHSA and first-generation students because I understand how overwhelming college can feel when you are navigating it for the first time without support. As a first-generation student myself, I know the importance of having guidance, encouragement, and someone who truly understands your background. - What does it mean to you to be a first-generation college student?
Being a first generation college student means breaking barriers and creating new opportunities not only for myself, but for my family as well. It represents resilience, responsibility, and pride, especially in navigating a system that wasn’t built with first generation students in mind. While the journey can be challenging, it motivates me to work harder, support others, and prove that my background is a source of strength.
