UMass Lowell is an inaugural partner in the MSC; this national project has grown out of a 2013 Massachusetts state pilot project to its current stature. It currently engages 88 campuses across 12 state higher education systems in a collaboration to find meaningful ways to measure student learning at scale.
UMass Lowell's participation in the MSC is focused on assessing three student learning outcomes aligned with our Core Curriculum:
- Critical thinking
- Quantitative Literacy
- Written Communication
UMass Lowell is committed to the pursuit of “authentic” assessment techniques, ones that measure the real work that faculty assign and that students complete as they pursue their degrees. We believe that this makes learning outcomes assessment directly relevant to the teaching and to the learning that takes place on our campus.
The MSC is supported by the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association (SHEEO) and the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U).
