As the Faculty Director of the Transfer Alliance Program (TAP), and on behalf of the entire TAP community, I want to personally welcome you to UMass Lowell and congratulate you on your acceptance to our university.
UMass Lowell is an institution that welcomes transfer students. In fact, 41% of the undergraduate student population are transfer students! This is a statistic that we are proud of. We are thrilled that students see UMass Lowell as a destination to further their academic and career aspirations.
UMass Lowell is committed to the success of our transfer students. We recognize that the transition to a new institution can be challenging, scary and potentially overwhelming. Starting in fall 2023, the Transfer Alliance Program will help minimize the adjustment period for transfer students by giving them a strong connection the River Hawk experience. The semester-long program connects new transfer students with peer allies - established UML transfer students - who will welcome new students as they navigate the university during their first semester. Allies will provide personal outreach and assistance to share the connections they have made during their time at UML.
We believe that you will find a welcoming and helpful community in TAP if you choose to join the program. Furthermore, we hope you find the program so helpful that you choose to join our team as a Peer Ally, helping future cohorts of transfer students fly high as a River Hawk.
Again, all our best to you on your journey at UMass Lowell.
Sincerely,
Kyle Coffey
Faculty Director, Transfer Alliance Program
