Biosketch

Johannes completed his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 2000 graduating from the Technical University of Vienna, Austria, while doing his thesis research in the United States as an MIT Research Affiliate. His thesis was about creating a computer simulation for medical devices providing insights into their performance. After graduation Johannes has worked in the high-tech industry first as a software engineer and then as a software manager for more than two decades. In his final job in high tech he worked at Amazon as a Software Development Manager for 7 years creating and maintaining cloud services for Amazon Fulfillment and Alexa. Based on his experience he is interested in designing, creating, and operating highly scalable and robust software systems. In early 2022, Johannes left the high-tech industry to pursue a a full time career in teaching.
