Enlightened BITES

The goal of Faculty Conversations to increase engagement among faculty and across faculty, staff and administrators about topics important to the success of our faculty. The offices of the Provost and Research and Innovation partner to develop a series of conversations that span the work that we do as professors.

Answering the "So What?" Question for Your Research (October)

This hands-on session led by Dr. Anne Maglia, Associate Vice Chancellor for Research will focus on answering the “so what” question when writing a grant proposal for intra- or extra-mural funding.

Articulating the broad significance of a research project or creative activity is often the critical missing piece. We’ll review the myriad of topics that may form the answer to the so what question including intellectual contributions to science or artistic pursuits and their social, economic, and political impacts. Come prepared to talk about your research and creative activity and help others focus on the importance of theirs.

Pitching Research Ideas(December)

Whether you call it an elevator speech or idea pitch, the ability to clearly and concisely communicate your research proposal idea is a critical first step to getting an award. Sign up to give a 3-minute pitch of their research proposal idea to a group of peer reviewers (including other "pitchers").  You'll receive immediate feedback, both verbal and written. The pitch session is designed to help you focus on the most important aspects of your project and its impact.

How to Write Winning Titles and Project Summaries(February)

In this hands-on session, we’ll focus on writing titles and project abstracts/summaries that stand out and make reviewers want to read your proposal.

Come prepared to work in teams to draft your ideas and give feedback to others.
