Humble. Hard-working. Big-hearted. Community-minded. Those are a few words that describe the spirit of UMass Lowell’s student body. Our students share a willingness to get involved and give back - through service learning, volunteering, internships and other projects. It’s part of the culture here. Each year, UMass Lowell students, faculty and staff devote more than 200,000 hours of service to the community.

If students see a need, they take action. They collect warm coats for the needy, raise money for cancer research, create business plans for nonprofits, they volunteer with the state police search and rescue team. As we celebrate Thanksgiving, we’re grateful for all that our students do to give back to the campus, the community and the world. Here are just a few examples how they are stepping up and making a difference.

Meghan Berking ran across the country to raise $7,500 for cancer research after losing her father to colon cancer.

I came to UMass Lowell for all of the opportunities. I'm in four clubs and they are all very different, but that allows me to be involved in everything I like.
