Typically, on the day your Optional Practical Training (OPT) becomes "active," you will receive an email from the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) asking you to create an SEVP Portal account. You will use this portal to report all employment changes while on Post-Completion OPT.

You are required to report the following information within a 10-day period while on Post-Completion OPT. Failure to report employment is a violation of the F-1 status. SEVP has the right to terminate any student, on an approved OPT authorization, that has accrued more than 90 days of unemployment. To ensure that your unemployment time stops accruing, you must report employment prior to the expiry of your available unemployment time.

ISSO suggests you report employment changes through the SEVP Portal.

The following must be reported within 10 days:

  • New Employment
  • Loss of Employment
  • Interruption of Employment
  • Concurrent Employment
  • Unpaid Internship/Volunteer Work
  • Change in Employer Name
  • Change in Employer Address
  • Change of Name
  • Change of Address (U.S. or Home Country)
  • Change in Citizenship
  • Change in Non-Immigrant Visa Status

Please find more information about the SEVP Portal on our SEVP Portal frequently asked questions (FAQ).
