Biosketch

Atherosclerosis is a chronic disease in which modified lipid derivatives and cell infiltrations are mediated through a complex inflammatory process leading to plaque and tissue build up within the coronary arteries. This is the underlying cause of most clinical cardiovascular events, which is the leading cause of death in the USA and around the world. Our Research Group focuses on the understanding of the role of lipids and their metabolites on atherosclerosis and lipoproteins metabolism and Alzheimer pathogenesis. The group is also interested in nutritional and metabolic studies in population. The group research lab performs basic research experiments using cell culture, animal models and clinical studies. These studies involve dietary, antioxidants and therapeutic supplements targeting specific pathways of inflammation and oxidative stress. We are also interested in new clinical laboratory method development and validation.
