Biosketch

Puthborey Phon is a doctoral student in the School of Criminology and Justice Studies in the Criminology and Criminal Justice program. Prior to attending this program, he was director of the Legal Protection Department of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs of Cambodia, leading the collaborative efforts to protect and promote women’s human rights.

In Cambodia and the ASEAN Region, Puthborey is a recognized leader in the fields of anti-human trafficking, addressing gender-based violence, and promoting the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace, and security.

In 2021, as an awardee of the Fulbright of U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholar Initiative Program, Puthborey became a visiting research scholar at the University of Washington in St. Louis to conduct a study using a gender lens to examine new trends of trafficking in persons during Covid-19. Currently, his research interest is related to the nexus between human trafficking and climate change.
