Authorized users are required to follow all Campus Recreation policies and procedures. Please review the various general departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) listed below. You can also review the facility specific SOP.

Personal photography and videography for informal personal use are permitted in Campus Recreation facilities only when they do not violate this SOP. Taking photos and videos is prohibited in restrooms, locker rooms and during fitness programs. "Personal use" is defined as taking photos and videos of yourself or consenting friends informally with a cell phone. Professional cameras, photography and videography require prior approval from the Office of Marketing and Communications.

Taking personal photos and videos must not interfere with Campus Recreation operations, cause a safety hazard, or disrupt other patrons' activities. Taking photos or videos without consent is strictly prohibited. Campus Recreation staff reserve the right to request that any individual stop recording or photographing if a potential violation is suspected.

Patrons who violate this SOP will be asked to leave the Campus Recreation facility immediately. Students will be referred to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities to be adjudicated through the student conduct process. All paid Campus Recreation Center (CRC) members may have their membership privileges suspended or revoked, pending a review of the incident by the Director of Campus Recreation. Faculty and staff violations will be referred to UMass Lowell (UML) Human Resources in accordance with appropriate collective bargaining agreements.

Campus Recreation periodically takes photos and videos in its facilities and during programs for promotional purposes. Patrons have the right to decline being photographed or recorded.

  • The use of tobacco or tobacco substitute products is not permitted on-site.
  • The possession of alcohol or recreational drugs will not be permitted in the Campus Recreation Center (CRC) or Riverview Fitness Center (RFC) nor on its grounds.
  • Individuals under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs will not be permitted in Campus Recreation facilities nor on its grounds.

Non-UMass Lowell Spectators are allowed at UMass Lowell Intramural Sports competitions inside the Campus Recreation Center (CRC). Spectators are only allowed into the CRC to watch the one game they came to see and must be signed in by a participating host.
  • Spectators are not allowed to participate in activities.
  • Spectators will not be charged a guest fee as they will be expected to exit the facility immediately after the game.
  • Minor spectators are allowed during intramural competitions only when accompanied by a parent or guardian; parents and guardians are required to complete a minor liability release form for each child under 18 years of age, for each visit.

Appropriate attire is required in all Campus Recreation facilities, programs, and activities.

  • Upper body garments are required in all activity areas. Garments which discreetly cover the lower body are required in all areas.
  • Closed-toe, non-marking athletic-type shoes that are free of debris are required in all activity areas except for the pool or for specific programs (yoga, etc.).
  • Hats are allowed in the fitness center, on the track and all non-activity spaces. Hats are not allowed in the racquetball/squash courts or gymnasium when recreating for safety purposes.

  • Food and candy is allowed in designated areas only and is not allowed in activity areas. Designated areas include: Atrium and hallways.
  • Water bottles are allowed in non-breakable, sealable containers in all areas of the CRC, Campus Rec Complex, and RFC.
  • Gum is not allowed in the CRC, Campus Rec Complex or RFC.

If the university is delayed or closed due to inclement weather, such as snowstorms, visit the the Campus Recreation homepage for alerts regarding changes to operating hours.

  • No animals are allowed in the Campus Recreation Center (CRC), Campus Recreation Complex or Riverview Fitness Center (RFC) except guide dogs.

  • Profane or indecent language will not be tolerated.
  • Spitting or intentionally creating other health hazards will not be permitted.
  • Verbal or physical altercations will not be permitted.
