Bicycle Friendly University Seal Silver

UMass Lowell Renews as Bicycle Friendly University!

UMass Lowell has again been designated a "Silver" Bicycle Friendly University with The League of American Bicyclists. Our last designation was an upgrade from "Bronze" to "Silver" BFU in 2019.

A big thanks to those who worked to get us here, building back the bicycle programs and keeping them going through the pandemic. We have certainly made some progress since our last award including creation of the UMass Lowell Bicycle Plan as well as additional bike parking and programming offerings.

Bicycle Friendly University – Upgraded to Silver

As of October 2019 UMass Lowell has been awarded an upgraded Silver Designation as a Bicycle Friendly Universityfrom the League of American Bicyclists! Thank you to all who helped promote bicycling across campus and submitted their feedback!

Go Lowell – City of Lowell Bicycle Master Plan

UMass Lowell Bicycle Programs is working with GoLowell to help with an upcoming Bicycle Master Plan for the City of Lowell. Please take a minute and let them know what your favorite bicycle routes are or what you think could be improved. Take the survey and learn more on their website.

New! It Pays to Ride Your Bike! Commuter Parking Pass Reimbursement for Biking

The goal of this S.E.E.D. Grant funded, $5,000 pilot program is to incentivize people who currently buy a semester or annual commuter parking pass to try bicycle commuting by partially reimbursing parking pass cost, offering educational and social support and offer discounts at the bike shop for demonstrated bicycle commuting.

New UMass Lowell Bike Shop Open For Business!

The UMass Lowell Bike Shop has moved to its new and improved location at 5 Lawrence Drive! The new shop features expanded inventory of new bikes, parts and accessories. The new shop also features additional work stations for open stand time to work on your own bike! Check out the great press or better yet come check check out the shop in person!

Bicycling is currently growing in popularity at UMass Lowell.

Our goal is to foster a culture of responsible cycling during a time when habits are forming for maturing riders. A responsible cyclist follows the law, is considerate of others, communicates with others on the road, is conspicuous, predictable and utilizes appropriate equipment to ensure the safety of themselves and others.
