Congratulations, Future River Hawk!
Your next steps as a first-year student are all found in your admissions portal. Follow your admitted student checklist to ensure you meet all the additional university requirements. The following tasks have deadlines you should review closely:
- Submit your Intent to Enroll form and pay your deposit
- Initiate your UMass Lowell (UML) Student Email account
- Housing Selection and Meal Plans
- Financial Aid and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Submission
- Health and Immunization Records
- Orientation and Placement Testing
Enrollment and Deposit
Declare your intent to enroll by registering online and paying your non-refundable enrollment deposit ($300 for domestic students and $500 for international students). You can submit your deposit online in your Admissions Portal or mail us a check or money order in U.S. dollars. If you have a financial hardship, please reach out to our office with a request to review waiving this charge. The priority deadline for the fall semester is May 1, and we will continue to take deposits as space allows. Students starting in the spring semester should enroll and submit their deposit as soon as possible.
When paying your non-refundable enrollment deposit, UMass Lowell accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express in U.S. dollars. We do not charge any credit card processing fees for the enrollment deposit. This deposit will be a credit on your tuition invoice.
Visit Campus
Explore campus at Destination UML, a series of events for admitted students. Events can be found in your portal and through email invitations sent to the personal email address you provided with your application.
View all Destination UML events.
Communications
Your personal email address is the primary way we will communicate with you. Take a moment to confirm in your portal that your email address is correct and is one you will check frequently. Please notify us through the admissions portal with any changes to your mailing or email address.
Note: We do not recommend using a school email address. Some schools block external email and you may not have access to that address after graduating.
International Students
Familiarize yourself with the visa process and deadlines for your visa application. This can be a lengthy process. Our International Students and Scholars Office is available to support you with documents or materials you may need.
Financial Aid
You must submit and complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to receive financial aid. Visit The Solution Center to learn more.
Dual Enrollment
In order to support any college credit you have already earned, please review your checklist and confirm you have submitted all transcripts for these courses. This must be done prior to attending orientation.
Official Test Scores
Anyone submitting test scores as part of their admission must provide official scores to the admissions office before attending orientation. This information will be on your admissions portal checklist.
Music Auditions
Review and follow all the requirements for your music audition (these are listed in the admissions portal), or you can view more information on the Music Department website.
Final Transcript
Your enrollment is contingent upon our receipt of official notification of successful completion of high school graduation requirements. You must comply with submitting your official final high school transcript (sent directly from your high school; we cannot accept copies) to the admissions office by July 15 for the fall semester or Jan. 1 for the spring semester. If we do not receive transcripts by these dates, you may be dropped from enrollment.
Application Changes
These tasks can be done in the student admissions portal under the tab “Application Changes.” Please follow the guidelines listed and review the terms carefully when you make these changes.
- Change of Major – we recommend you do this prior to attending orientation
- Defer
- Withdraw
- Update your Information
First Generation, Honors, Bachelor's-to-Master's, Scholarships
Any awards or invitations to programs sponsored by UMass Lowell will be presented in your portal.
Student Email Account
Some actions like applying for on-campus housing and updating health records require you to initiate your UML student email account. You will initiate your student email, student ID and set up your system access with multifactor authentication. Follow the instructions in your admissions portal or reach out to our Information Technology office for guidance.
Billing
Bills are generally available in late July for the fall semester and early January for the spring semester. Please refer to The Solution Center website for the latest information.
