What is your favorite thing about UML?
My favorite thing about UMass Lowell must be the people here.
What are your future goals?
My future goal in life is to be able to live comfortably with my family.
What has being involved with the RHSA meant to you?
Being involved with RHSA has meant I was given opportunities and support that I would have never known about without them.
Looking back, what advice would you give to yourself in your first year of college?
Looking back on my first year of college, I wish that I went out and volunteer/did more around the communities I was close with.
What advice would you give fellow students?
Most people will hype up certain classes to be the hardest thing there is that semester. But honestly, you’ll be fine, stop stressing and fight through it!
Why did you choose to attend UMass Lowell?
At first, I really didn’t have a clue. I didn’t really consider university to be something I would do after high school. UML was far enough from home, yet close enough to travel to. My parents wanted me to dorm too, so it was the perfect option. In the end, I left my home to find another place called home.
What does it mean to you to be a first-generation college student?
A first-generation college student meant a chance for me. The chance of doing something my family was never thought of or offered. Something that could bring us to somewhere else.  A ticket to a faraway land. With this chance, I hope to make the most of it by trying my best at my time here at UML.
What inspires you to want to help first-generation students in the RHSA?
One of the things that I’ve noticed coming here is that I felt at peace. Which is an odd thing, being away from family and friends from back home, I oddly felt at peace. It was my first time at a university, yet I knew my way around the place and never got lost. Along the way I noticed the small things like the way the sprinkler would be on at certain times, to the weirder times where the doors all suddenly close on me. I wish to share that feeling of comfort with others as I know while my feelings are different, they’re good feelings that everyone should feel while being here. Simply put, I wish to share that with other first-generation students, who might feel lost or unwelcomed here to feel a sense of peace at UML.
