Favorite hobbies?
My favorite hobbies include thrifting, going on hikes or the beach and playing volleyball.
What is your favorite thing about UML?
My favorite thing about UML is that it is home to me in multiple ways. The support for students is incredible and I am getting a great hands-on education.
What are your future goals?
My future goals include obtaining my Registered Nursing license and receiving my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Then afterwards I plan on attending a masters program and obtaining my Advanced Practice Nursing license specializing in either women's health or oncology.
What has being involved with the RHSA meant to you?
The Riverhawk Scholars Academy has always meant community to me. I have always found some of the biggest support and resources within the RHSA and I am so grateful for it. Without this program, I would not have been able to access as many opportunities I have come across thus far in my academic career.
Looking back, what advice would you give to yourself in your first year of college?
I would tell my first year me that it is okay to reach out for help. This applies in every aspect of college. Whether it be reaching out to a professor for help with an assignment or the solution center for help understanding tuition, I do not have to figure it all out on my own (common mentality for first generation students). There are plenty of people who are happy to help me.
What advice would you give fellow students?
I would tell fellow students to try and enjoy undergrad because it can be lots of fun if you let it be! UML is a big commuter school (I am a commuter myself) and it is easy to not be involved on campus. Joining a club or sports team can make your time at school more enjoyable!
Why did you choose to attend UMass Lowell?
I chose UML because it had lots of “pros” compared to the other colleges I was considering. These included being close to home and saving money commuting (as well as continuing to enjoy my mother's food). Also, the nursing program here is amazing.
What does it mean to you to be a first-generation college student?
To me being a first-generation student means that challenges are to be expected. There are constant barriers, unknowns, and pressures put on you. It is not easy being a first-generation student and therefore, there is an immense amount of pride that others and I should have.
What inspires you to want to help first-generation students in the RHSA?
My first year was very hard, especially since I had just gone through a whole virtual senior year due to covid. My community in the RHSA helped me gain my motivation and confidence back. I am honored to help those hopefully in the same ways I have helped.
